This document details the standardized factory process for creating cultured stone molds using RTV2 liquid silicone, from master mold preparation to demolding and use, including key operating points and frequently asked questions.
Making high-quality cultured stone molds using RTV2 liquid silicone requires a standardized operating procedure. The following are the complete process steps optimized through factory practice.
Thoroughly clean the natural stone or master mold template. Lightly apply a release agent (wax or petroleum jelly) to the surface of the porous master mold. Secure the master mold to a flat base plate using clay or glue, leaving 2–3 cm of space around it for building the mold frame.
Build a frame around the master mold using plastic, wooden, or metal sheets. Seal all gaps with clay to prevent silicone leakage. The frame height should be 2–3 cm higher than the highest point of the master mold.
Weigh materials A and B according to the specified ratio (100:2 or 1:1 by weight). Stir thoroughly for 3–5 minutes, carefully scraping the container walls and bottom clean. If possible, vacuum degas for 2–3 minutes to remove air bubbles introduced during mixing.
Slowly pour the mixed silicone from a height of 20–30 cm above the master mold, starting from the lowest point to help break air bubbles. Continue pouring until the silicone covers the master mold by at least 1 cm.
Cure at room temperature (20–25°C) for 4–8 hours. After complete curing, remove the mold frame and carefully peel the silicone mold from the master mold. For large or complex molds, a support shell can be made before demolding.
After demolding, allow the mold to cure for 24 hours before use. Clean with mild soapy water, air dry, and apply a light release agent before the first pour to begin production.
