FAQ
Q How should I store unused silicone?

In sealed containers at 10-25°C. Shelf life: 12 months (tin) / 6 months (platinum).

Q Is RTV-2 skin-safe?

Wear nitrile gloves. Uncurred components may cause irritation. Wash with soap if contacted.

Q What’s "platinum vs. tin" cure?

Platinum: food/medical-safe, low odor. Tin: cost-effective but may inhibit with certain materials.

Q How to make translucent molds?

Choose optically clear grades and degas thoroughly to eliminate micro-bubbles.

Q Can I color RTV-2 silicone?

Yes, use ≤3% silicone-specific pigments. Excessive pigment slows curing.

Q Why did my mold distort?

Curing too fast at high temps, insufficient support shell, or premature demolding.

Q How to prevent mold tearing during demolding?

Design draft angles >3°, avoid undercuts, and use tear-resistant silicones (e.g., 20-30 Shore A).

Q Why do air bubbles trap on model surfaces?

Degas insufficiently, pour too high, or apply barrier coat too thickly. Pre-wet model with silicone thinner.

Q Can I cast low-melt metals?

Only with high-heat silicones (≥250°C rating). Standard RTV-2 degrades above 180°C.

Q What casting materials work best?

Epoxy, polyurethane, polyester resins, wax, gypsum. Avoid sulfur-containing materials.
