Potting is the process of encapsulating an electronic assembly in a protective compound. In electric vehicles (EVs), DC-DC converter potting protects the power electronics that convert high-voltage battery power to lower voltages. A thermally conductive silicone potting compound with high conductivity is used so heat is carried away from power devices while the module is insulated and sealed.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Thermal conductivity | 3.0 ± 0.1 W/m·K |
| Mix ratio | 1:1 by weight |
| Operating temperature | −40°C to 200°C |
| Flame retardancy | UL94 V-0 |
| Volume resistivity | ≥1.0 × 1014 Ω·cm |
| Heat cure | 30 min at 80°C |
High-power modules typically use 3.0 W/m·K compounds such as HN-8830A/B.
Automotive potting should cover at least −40°C to 200°C.
Keep substrates and tools free of tin, sulphur, amines, acids and solder-flux residues.
For EV DC-DC converters and automotive electronics, a thermally conductive silicone potting compound with 3.0 W/m·K conductivity, UL94 V-0 and −40°C to 200°C stability delivers the heat management and reliability that OEMs demand.
