Latest company case about HN-E Platinum-Cure Liquid Silicone for Concrete Cultural Stone Molds: Durable High-Wear Performance
Overview

This case study shows how a manufacturer of concrete facing stone, exporting to Russia and Central Asia, upgraded its moulds with HN-E Series platinum-cure (addition-cure) liquid silicone rubber from Shenzhen Hanast New Materials. Faced with abrasive mixes, heavy castings and large panels, the producer needed moulds with higher strength and reliable cure.

The Challenge

Concrete and cement cultural stone is far more demanding on a mould than gypsum: the mix is abrasive, the parts are heavier, and the mould must survive many more demouldings.

  • High-wear, abrasive concrete compounds wearing out moulds quickly;
  • Large-format panels requiring rigid, dimensionally stable moulds;
  • Risk of cure inhibition caused by contaminants in the master and frame;
  • Uncontrolled shrinkage distorting the joint line between tiles.
The Solution

HN-E platinum-cure silicone combines excellent tensile strength and tear resistance with very low shrinkage. Its eleven hardness grades (Shore A 0–60) share a single 1:1 mix ratio, so inventory stays simple while the workshop tunes mould stiffness per product.

Property Value
Mix ratio (A:B) 1:1 by weight
Pot life 30–40 min at 25°C
Cure (room temperature) 3–4 h at 25°C
Cure (heat accelerated) ≤20 min at 80–100°C
Tensile strength up to 6.5 MPa
Tear strength 12–24 kN/m
Linear shrinkage ≤0.1%
Operating temperature −50°C to +200°C
Grade Selection
Model Hardness Recommended Use
HN-E625 – E630 Shore A 25–30 General crafts, resin, gypsum stone
HN-E630 – E640 Shore A 30–40 Rigid moulds, concrete stone, high-wear production

For concrete facing stone the producer standardised on HN-E645–E650, gaining the firmness and toughness required for repeated heavy casting.

Application Process
  1. Pre-mix Components A and B thoroughly.
  2. Weigh A and B accurately in a 1:1 ratio by weight.
  3. Mix for 2–3 minutes until uniform.
  4. Degas under vacuum for a bubble-free mould.
  5. Pour into the clean, dry frame within the 30–40 min pot life.
  6. Cure 3–4 h at room temperature or ≤20 min at 80–100°C, then demould.
Important Note on Cure Inhibition

Platinum-cure silicone will not cure in contact with organotin compounds, sulphur/polysulphide compounds, amines, polyurethane, phosphorus compounds, organic acids and solder-flux residues. Masters, frames and tools must be clean and free of these contaminants, and the material should not be mixed with condensation-cure (tin) silicone. With clean tooling, HN-E cures reliably every time.

Results
  • Higher tear and tensile strength noticeably extended mould life in abrasive concrete;
  • Shrinkage ≤0.1% kept large panels and tile joints dimensionally accurate;
  • Rigid HN-E630–E640 grade stabilised large-format moulds;
  • Consistent 1:1 processing simplified mixing and reduced waste;
  • Odourless, non-toxic material suited a busy production environment.
Conclusion

For concrete and cement cultural stone producers in Russia and Central Asia, HN-E platinum-cure liquid silicone rubber offers the durability, precision and process reliability needed for high-wear, large-format production. Shenzhen Hanast New Materials supports partners with sample moulds, grade selection and guidance on preventing cure inhibition.
