What is IGBT?

IGBT, also known as Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor, is a composite, fully controllable, voltage-driven power semiconductor device; simply put, it's a semiconductor switching device. In short, it's a switch that either turns on or off. IGBTs do not amplify voltage; when on, they can be considered as a wire, and when off, as an open circuit. IGBTs combine the advantages of both BJTs and MOSFETs, such as low drive power and low saturation voltage.

IGBTs are core components for energy conversion and transmission, serving as the "CPU" of power electronic devices. Using IGBTs for power conversion improves power efficiency and quality, offering high energy efficiency and environmental friendliness. They are a key supporting technology for solving energy shortages and reducing carbon emissions. When IGBT modules are used in high-speed trains, electric vehicles, wind turbines, and variable frequency air conditioners, they are often subjected to environmental factors such as low temperatures, high temperatures, humidity, vibration, and mechanical shock. Silicone Gel for IGBT Modules

Silicone gel, as a special electronic potting material, possesses not only the unique weather resistance and aging resistance, excellent high and low temperature resistance, and good hydrophobicity and electrical insulation properties of silicone potting compounds, but also advantages such as low internal stress, good impact resistance, and strong adhesion, making it the preferred material for IGBT module potting.

IGBT silicone gel is a low-stress, very soft silicone gel. After being potted onto the IGBT module, its low stress and gel softness not only achieve ideal impact resistance and shock absorption effects, but also the adhesiveness of the gel surface adheres well to the IGBT module, providing excellent waterproof and moisture-proof protection. Furthermore, the excellent electrical insulation properties of IGBT silicone gel, such as high dielectric strength and volume resistivity, also protect the IGBT module.
