What is liquid silicone rubber used for?

Liquid silicone rubber is a highly versatile material, and new applications for it are discovered and tested every day. It is a mainstay in healthcare manufacturing, automotive component manufacturing, electronics and consumer products, gaskets and other hardware, and many other markets.

 

General purpose silicone rubber has very poor tear strength. This is because of the siloxane backbone (silicon to oxygen). While this backbone offers brilliant stability and flexibility it also has a very weak chain and can therefore be very much susceptible to tears.

 

Many users appreciate its clear finish, quick drying time, and strong waterproof capabilities, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor projects. However, some customers experienced challenges with the tube's dispensing mechanism, finding it difficult to squeeze out the silicone and clean the nozzle after use.
