Challenge

  • Battery modules ran above target temperatures under peak load, creating hotspots.
  • Rigid epoxy potting was too hard — it cracked under long-term thermal cycling between hot days and cool nights.
  • The previous material’s thermal conductivity was too low to move heat from cells to cold plates.

Hanast Solution

Hanast recommended HN-8820A/B, a two-component addition-cure (platinum-catalysed) silicone potting compound with a thermal conductivity of 2.0 ± 0.1 W/m·K and a 1:1 mix ratio by weight. As a UL94 V-0 certified potting compound for high-voltage energy storage, it provides flame-retardant protection, low viscosity (5,000–8,000 mPa·s) for easy pouring and self-levelling, and a cured elastomer that stays flexible across −40 °C to 200 °C.
