When using silicone to make molds, we often encounter mold shrinkage. Why do silicone molds shrink, and how can this be resolved? HANAST will explain below:

Industrial-grade mold silicone curing is a process of liquid to solid transformation. Due to differences in molecules and densities, shrinkage occurs. Good silicone has a low shrinkage rate, while poor-quality silicone shrinks significantly.

1. All materials have a certain degree of shrinkage. Compared to many materials, silicone rubber has a relatively small shrinkage rate. For condensation-type mold silicone, a shrinkage rate of 0.5-1% is normal, while for addition-type mold silicone it's around 0.2%.
2. Incorrect mold storage methods; molds should not be stacked.
3. The larger the product size, the more obvious the shrinkage.
4. When making large molds, fiberglass cloth or gauze was not added during the molding process.
5. Demolding or premature production before the mold is fully cured can cause the silicone mold to deform and shrink.

To address the issue of high shrinkage rates in mold silicone, HANAST has summarized the following common methods:

1. Scale up the original mold proportionally.
2. Fill the mold with plaster solution when not in use. Remove the plaster product when production is needed; this will prevent shrinkage in subsequent production.
3. Reduce the proportion of hardener added. For example, reduce from 3% to 2%.
4. For large products, add fiberglass cloth to the mold to prevent deformation or enlargement.
5. The mold must be demolded at least 6-8 hours after production and can only be used for production after 24 hours.
